New world distance record
Portuguese Niviuk pilot Eduardo Lagoa has broken the world record* in the FAI “Distance in a straight line without landing” category on a tandem paramotor trike. With his Niviuk R-Bus size 40 and a trike, Eduardo and co-pilot Carla Alves completed a 474.7 km flight lasting 6:41 hours, beating the previous record by 47.6 km. This was held by Polish pilot Krzysztof Romicki, who covered a free distance of 427.07 km in 2018.
The new world record was set on the 7 February 2022, with a flight that started in Tembleque (Toledo, Spain) and the team landed in Setubal (Portugal). "The goal was to beat the record and to fly home," says Eduardo. The record has been registered with the Federation of International Aeronautics (FAI) in the subcategory RPL2T, within the category R (Microlights and Paramotors). The tandem trike used was the Power2fly Fenix XC and the navigation instrument was the Flymaster Live.

"We spent a year studying how to beat this record, planning all the details and waiting for the day with the optimum flight conditions to be able to achieve it," explains Eduardo. He is still amazed to have achieved one of his dreams and declared excitedly that "Niviuk overcomes barriers". The same flying team is already competing in different paragliding championships because they have set themselves new challenges: to try to beat the world distance record over a closed circuit without landing, which has been held by Spanish pilot Martin Carpio since last October with a flight of 305 km.
