Simon Mettetal

I started paragliding when I was 12 in Mont Poupet in the Jura range. I later joined the Pôle Espoir in Font Romeu, Pyrenees, for my high school years. It was an amazing opportunity to improve my skills and become more performant.

I got my bachelor in science and moved back to my home area to go to a medical school in Besançon. I didn’t have a chance to fly on my first year of med school. I am now in my third year of med school.

I joined the Pôle France and got selected to go to the 2020 European Championship in Serbia as part of the French team, unfortunately everything got cancelled. I have been doing a lot of trail running and hike and fly over the past year, I find it really fun.

Some of my achievements:

2017 Junior French Champion.
3rd at the pre-PWCA in South-Africa in 2017.
6th at the 2018 Italian Championship.
4th at the PWCA in Brazil in 2018.
2nd at the British Championship in 2019.
4th at the Spanish Championship in 2019.
3rd at the Freedom Open 2020.
I am 70th in the world ranking and 3rd in the French national ranking.

I go XC flying as often as I can. I recently broke the record in the Jura range with a 251km flight. Last year I did my first hike and fly competitions: Cantal Air Tour and Trotte et Vol, I came first on both occasions. I also crossed the French Alps from Annecy to Nice in 3 days with Noah Locatelli.
