Peak 7: first impressions and feedback in real conditions

The first units of our new EN D wing, the Peak 7, are already taking to the skies in different parts of the world. From Brazil, pilot Fernando Henrique Damiani shares his first feedback after a test flight in varied conditions, including thermals, turbulence, accelerated transitions and a few manoeuvres to explore the wing’s behaviour.

His first impression was clear: very easy inflation, with a feeling of lightness and stability that really stands out in its category.

“It’s a very solid wing”

During the flight, conditions allowed him to test the wing in an area well known for turbulent air, particularly on the lee side of the mountain. In these conditions, the Peak 7 feels very solid. The wing tends to pitch slightly nose-up when passing through turbulence, but without abrupt movements, shaking or any feeling of losing pressure.

In thermals, the handling is precise and allows the pilot to tighten the turn when needed. This ability to adjust the turn radius is particularly useful in weaker conditions or when a thermal requires more precise positioning.

“Looking forward to putting more kilometres on it”

One of the aspects that stands out most becomes apparent when using the speed bar.

With around 80% speed bar, the increase in speed is approximately 15 km/h. Beyond the speed itself, what stands out most is how solid the wing remains. It stays stable, with very little unwanted movement, and holds a straight line easily even when accelerated.

“What impressed me most was how solid and stable it feels, especially when accelerated,” Fernando explains.

The flight also provided an opportunity to test a few stalls. During one of them, a large cravat formed, affecting approximately 50% of the wing. As expected, there is a tendency to turn, but the behaviour remains controllable and the direction can still be managed. After another stall, the wing reinflates quickly.

Overall, these first impressions point to a Peak 7 with very consistent behaviour: stable in turbulence, precise in the turn and particularly solid when using the speed bar.

There is still plenty more flying to do and many different conditions to explore, but this first flight in Brazil leaves one clear feeling: the desire to keep adding hours and kilometres with it.
