Would you like to start paragliding but you don’t know where to begin? Here are four things to consider before your first flight.

1. Book a tandem flight

You may find the idea of paragliding appealing, but the sensation of being in the air for the first time can be overwhelming. A good way to experience it first hand is through a professional tandem flight, during which you will be accompanied by a qualified pilot.

There are many paragliding companies all over the world in our dealer network with whom you can take this first step. In addition, they use the best tandem glider we have ever built: the Takoo.

2. Sign up for a paragliding course

Once you have completed your first tandem flight and you can’t get the idea of flying out of your head, then you really do want to become a pilot. To do this, you have to sign up for a course at a flying school, with qualified and certified professionals who will teach you the knowledge and skills you need to fly independently.

You can find schools in our dealer network that use the ultimate beginner and progression wing - our Koyot

3. Find the best equipment for you

Now that you have passed the course and have your license to fly, you can get in the air! Our recommendation is that you opt for a beginner&39;s flying equipment, so that you can take your first steps gradually, easily and safely.

At Niviuk we have different options to make up your perfect flying gear to get you started as a pilot:

  • Paraglider: The Koyot or Hook, our beginner’s and progression wings. Both offer you safety, comfort and stability to give you confidence in flight.
See a comparison between these two wings here and find out which one is right for you.
  • Harness: Makan, Konvers 2 or Roamer 2
  • Although the Makan is the ideal harness to start flying, all three harness models are compatible with the Koyot and the Hook. They are safe and comfortable harnesses, which adapt to the pilot&39;s body shape.
  • Backpack: some of the harnesses mentioned above are reversible and convert into a backpack. But if you want more options, these are the perfect rucksacks to get you started and carry all your gear: the Kargo 130 or the Kargo 160.
  • And above all, never forget your helmet!

4. Join a local paragliding club to make new flying friends

Once you have completed your course at a local school you will be able to fly safely in the area covered by the club. You can choose the club(s) you wish to join, according to your preferences. This will allow you to interact with other paraglider pilots and receive advice to help you progress little by little. The other pilots will be able to take you to the correct take-offs, so you end up being in the right place at the right time to catch the thermal that takes you sky high.

We hope you find these tips useful and enjoy your first paragliding flight
