The essential guide to maintaining and caring for your paraglider

Keeping your paraglider in top condition is essential to ensure both its performance and your safety during flight. Here is a complete guide based on the experience and recommendations of Niviuk's official workshop, NK Service, to keep your wing in perfect condition.

Inspection and maintenance

Periodic inspection: according to the certification report, you should have your glider serviced every 24 months or 100 flying hours, whichever comes first, by a professional workshop such as NK Service, which offers a complete inspection and repair service. In addition to regular inspections, we recommend active and continuous care of your flight equipment to ensure its proper operation and prolong its life span.

Daily inspection: a thorough pre-flight check must be performed before every flight. This includes checking the condition of the wing, lines and harness. If you detect any damage or wear and tear, it is essential to address these immediately to avoid major problems.

Trim check: to maintain the wing’s standard performance, it is necessary to have the line trim set correctly. Lines may shrink or stretch, so we recommend checking the trim after approximately the first 30 hours of flight. The hours when the lines should be checked again may vary for each wing depending on the conditions of each flying area, regional weather, temperature, humidity, terrain type, wing loading, etc.

Care and storage

Avoiding damage: it is critical to avoid any kind of impact or dragging the leading edge on the ground. This part is reinforced with very durable and strong Nitinol rods that can be easily replaced. But dragging and/or hitting the leading edge can cause serious damage to the fabric, which is much more complicated and costly to repair.

Packaging and storage: correctly folding your paraglider is crucial. The wing must be tightly packed cell by cell, maintaining the shape of the leading edge reinforcements. Keep your equipment in the in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, solvents, fuels or oils. During long-term storage, ensure that it is not compressed and that it is stored loosely. Do not place any weight on your equipment.

Cleaning and drying

Cleaning: it is not necessary to wash the fabric or lines of your wing. If they become dirty, clean them with a soft damp cloth, using only water. Do not use detergents or other chemicals.

Drying: if your glider gets wet, dry it in a dry, well-ventilated place, out of direct sunlight. If it gets wet with salt water, rinse with fresh water and then dry in the same way.

Sand: if you fly in sandy areas, avoid getting sand in the cells or down into the trailing edge. At the end of the flight, empty any sand that is in your wing. The openings at the end of the wingtips make this much easier.
