Lukas Oberfrank: +210 km on his first flight with the new Peak 6
Not everyone is able to make a record flight with a new paraglider. But Italian pilot Lukas Oberfrank, who works with the Flugschule Suditirol school, has done just that: on 10 April he unpacked his new Peak 6 glider to inaugurate it in style with a triangular flight of 213 km.
He took off from Speikbode and stayed in the air for 8 hours with an impressive average speed of 27.5 km/h. He reached a maximum altitude of 4155 m and caught thermals of up to 8 m/s. Quite a flight to debut his new Cross-Country machine.
"After an unusually long period of bad weather, the 10th of April finally brought a day with good conditions for XC flying. I'd had my new Peak 6 for two weeks, and I couldn't wait for a good day's flying so I could use it for the first time. For the first few hours the base was not very high, and the thermals were a bit weak, but the impressive turning behaviour of the Peak 6 proved itself," explains Lukas.
"From 2 p.m. onwards the thermals were stronger, and the base was getting higher and higher. At that time, you could fly super-fast: base above 4000 m and thermals over 7 m/s. I really liked the nicely smooth feel of the speedbar and the excellent piloting control over the B handle. I am absolutely delighted with my Peak 6, especially the turning behaviour, which is excellent, and the speebar system, which is very efficient," he concludes.
