Ramón Morillas and our Takoo 5 glider climb to a record altitude of over 7100 m

Renowned Niviuk Factory pilot Ramón Morillas has again set a historic milestone in the world of paramotoring. On 23 December 2023 he set two new foot-launched tandem paramotor (RPF2T) altitude world records* to add to his already long and well-known track record.

Flying Niviuk's Takoo 5 (size 42), Ramón, together with his co-pilot Carlos Peña, climbed to an impressive 7186 metres, setting the record for the highest altitude gain. The previous record was 5066 m (+2,120 m), set in 2015.

He also broke the record for the time taken to climb to 6000 metres in just 1 hour and 20 minutes. These achievements showcase not only Ramon Morillas&39; skill as a pilot, but also the exceptional quality and performance of the Takoo 5. The flight, which took place in Cenes de la Vega (Granada, Spain), now awaits official ratification by the FAI (Fédération Aéronautique Internationale).

These records are not only a triumph for Ramón and Niviuk, but also represent a significant breakthrough in paragliding and paramotoring, demonstrating the extraordinary capabilities that can be achieved with the right technology, equipment and weather.

"The glider let us launch very quickly and comfortably. I chose the Takoo 5 for its high glide performance and for being the largest size. In my opinion, it is currently the best performing free flight wing and it works very well for motorised flying. In flight we carried about 220 kg in total, including pilot and passenger, clothes, parachute, tandem system, fuel, flight instruments, camera and oxygen. The equipment worked wonderfully," explains Ramón.

He used Vittorazi&39;s Cosmos 300 engine and the PAP Tinox 1500 paramotor chassis. "After several weeks of preparing, we chose this day because of the expected good weather conditions. When we were at an altitude of almost 7200 metres, temperatures were -25°C. The most incredible thing was that when I decided to stop the engine due to the cold and how difficult the flight was becoming, we were still climbing at 0.5 m/s. The evolution of the free-flying world in recent years is astonishing. It is impressive that a paramotor, which is the most basic type of powered flight, can reach these altitudes where normally only aircraft with far superior technology fly".
