One morning, I woke up with the idea that I wanted to fly. I don't remember what triggered it, but I couldn't get it out of my head. I started researching, but at that time, it wasn't easy to find others who were into flying. I spent weeks looking for a pilot. Finally, I met a paraglider and decided to enroll in a paragliding school. It was love at first sight! I vividly remember the whole process, the eagerness to fly and learn, eagerly awaiting the weekends to attend flight courses.
I began competing with a group of friends, and with just 3 years of experience, I joined the
Italian National Team. It was incredibly exciting, a fantastic opportunity to fly with the best pilots in the world and learn so much. That period of my life was amazing; I was literally living a dream. I spent my days traveling, flying, participating in competitions, and on top of that, I could do it with my boyfriend! Paragliding became an addiction; I took a 6-month sabbatical from work and flew whenever conditions allowed. Thirty years have passed, and I continue to fly whenever I can.
Every flight is a new adventure with memories that last a lifetime. I'll never forget my first long-distance flight in 1998; back then, completing a 120 km triangle was a dream. In 2015, I flew a 204 km triangle in Kenya with my blue
Artik 4 and covering such a distance in such an awe-inspiring place left me speechless. However, the flight that truly thrilled me was the time I soared over the Australian flatlands for 8 hours with my red
Artik 4. I fell in love with the ability to hop from one cumulus to another, observing the landscape, the sky, and everything around me.
Undoubtedly, the most special moment for me was flying alongside the gigantic Himalayan vultures. It was just them and me, more than 2 hours of flying together, as that day, I took off first and flew alone for many kilometers. Sharing the flight with birds is always a magical experience.
My only goal is to enjoy life and every flight for many years. Pilots are fortunate people because we can "experience" the world from a different perspective and remain forever Peter Pan. I'm a pilot who knows her limits and often underestimates her abilities. Perhaps this makes me an "old/experienced" pilot, but I have no problem admitting that I'm not fearless. Maybe, when it comes to flying, being cautious is an advantage. I always think I'm 25 years old, but I'm more than twice that age! What an incredible adventure life is!
